RACHEL WATKINS

Im currently studying at Huddersfield University and am approaching my third / sandwich year of my course (Costume Design with Textiles).

I enjoy being creative and can turn my hand to most things, particularly painting, sketching, needlework of all kinds and I take inspiration  from many sources. I enjoy listening to music and my tastes vary from heavy  rock to musicals and have recently discovered that I quite like opera! I like to read as much as possible and watch films whenever I can.

I enjoy my course and am able to pattern cut and create patterns both on the stand and also flat patterns. I have a flamboyant, individual style with a vivid imagination and am never sure in which direction it will take me. I have created male and female garments and designs for modern and period wear to a high standard. I specialise in embroidery and amable to produce both hand and machine embroidered textiles. My research skills enable me to deconstruct and analyse scripts, so assisting me with obtaining a new concept for a story and am able to illustrate character's designs based on the new take / theme.
